  • being available for regular individual consultations;
  • offering guidance and advice on critical matters of the project such as the direction and focus of research, the research design, the soundness of the methodology used, the soundness of analysis, interpretation of results, and the effectiveness of the written presentation, and
  • reading and critiquing the drafts of the student’s dissertation.

2. The student should be aware that it is not the responsibilities of a supervisor:

  • to schedule appointment with the student;
  • to make sure that the student shows up for scheduled consultations;
  • to conduct research;
  • to write the research report or a portion of it, and
  • to edit the written product of a project.

3. Duties of the student involve:

  • scheduling regular appointments with the supervisor;
  • being prepared for each consultation;
  • informing the supervisor of the difficulty that he/she encounters and the type of help needed, and

The student should be aware that your supervisor has many duties apart from the supervision of your project.
