Capstone Project Checkpoint

Topic Selection

1. Develop a topic that interests you in your career development.

2. Brainstorm three top issues you want to study about the topic and turn them into questions.

Conduct free-writing about your ideas on the topic and review what you have created. Think about any issues related to these ideas, and see if these ideas can become workable research questions. It is highly recommended to discuss your ideas with your teachers and fellow students.

3. Read the literature to find out methods used in previous relevant studies and their main findings.

4. It is possible to replicate a previous study in a new context or with a new methodology.

Keep the following in mind when you choose a topic for your capstone project:
  • Ensure that the topic fits your discipline.
  • Read the literature to find out why a topic has been scarcely studied before.
  • Choose a topic within the scope of what an undergraduate can do.
  • Make sure that your research can be conducted in an ethical way.
Dissertation topics from BAESP graduates are listed here.
