Hong Kong Identity Card

Any visitor to Hong Kong (including a student coming from outside Hong Kong) who intends to stay for a period of more than 180 days is required by law to apply for a Hong Kong Identity Card at the Registration of Persons Office of the Immigration Department.The application needs to be conducted within THIRTY days upon arrival.

Reservation:

Book as early as possible.
Early arrival at the Immigration Department is also acceptable without booking.

Banking arrangements

You are advised to open a bank account in Hong Kong. You will need to transfer money for immediate use when you arrive here. This can be done:

  • by instructing an overseas bank to send money in your name to a bank in Hong Kong;
  • by depositing travelers cheques or a bank draft in a local account (personal cheques can also be deposited but may take as long as three weeks to be cleared).


Note:

BEA and Hang Seng Bank have their branches within VA. HSBC has its branch in Tsim Sha Tsui East. You can draw money with the Hang Seng Bank card cost-free.

a proof of HK address and the Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao are needed to open an account at first. You need to re-submit the copy of your HKID card upon receiving it.

Any tuition fee must be paid though Hang Seng Bank in HK$. You can use ATM transfer or counter service.

Registration in Liaison Office of Central Governmental Office (LOCPG)中聯辦 (eligible for Mainland students)

Any Mainland scholar or student studying in HK (≥6 months) must register in LOCPC within THREE months upon arrival.
Without registration, LOCPG will not offer you “Certificate for Learning or Working in HK& Macao” after graduation.

2. Graduation at PolyU

Certificate for learning or working in HK & Macao (applicable for Mainland students)

Go to LOCPG and apply for the “Certificate for Learning or Working in HK& Macao” ONE month prior to your leaving.

Application by authorized person:                                        
The authorized person must produce the following documents:

  • a signed authorization letter;
  • a copy of Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao; and
  • a copy of your student card.

Cost:  20HK$
Working hours and address: Refer to the information in the previous section.
(Note: The procedure is the same for employees working in Hong Kong for more than six months.)

 

IANG application (12 months stay after graduation under IANG)

  • Non-local students with a full-time degree may apply to stay and work in HK under the Immigration Arrangement for Non-local Graduates (IANG).
  • Applications shall be submitted to the Immigration Department within six months from the date of graduation.
  • The procedure nomally lasts for seven days.

  • The form of  ID990 A from the Immigration Department
  • Testimonial : A subject qualification issued by Academic Secretariat at M101 (five working days)
  • A copy of passport(for overseas students)/ Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao (for Mainland students) /Entrance Permit(for Taiwan students)
  • A copy of Hong Kong identity card
  • The Letter of Consent (the last page of ID990 A) by related persons (for Mainland students).

Mainland student permit

The students also needs to apply for renewing Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao(內地往來港澳通行證) after obtaining the HK visa extension. Extension application can be submitted to China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited or the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau in the city of your domicile.

Transcript of studies

A free copy of Transcript of Studies will be mailed to your registered address in AS system in September. The Transcript of Studies can be mailed to the Mainland.

Application for extra copies

Supporting Documents: The form AS3 and Exit-entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao

  • Submit the documents and send them to AS at M101 in person,
  • or entrust your friends with related documents and and sign the Form AS3 and a letter of authorization.
