What do our alumni say?

1.

“The degree of BA (Hons) in English Studies for the Professions provides me with specialized knowledge and training in both written and spoken English for the professional context. The Department of English has been the place where I take my learning of English to a higher level and reinforce my interest in the language. I would like to take this chance to extend my deepest gratitude to all the tutors and support staff in the Department. Your valuable teaching, advice and guidance have always been instrumental for my development throughout my university life.”

“English is essential in work and study these days. Our Programme offers a substantial amount of top quality learning opportunities such that our students’ written and spoken communication skills are honed to perfection. I improve a great deal in my analytical, communication and presentation skills and these are all definite assets in my future career.”

“There is no better way to learn a language than to actually using that language and this is exactly what we do in the Department. Our Programme covers a wide range of topics and we learn the basic on Functional Grammar, English pronunciation, as well as Applied Linguistics. The Department also offers a lot of job-oriented subjects
which I find really useful for my future career.”

3.

“The programme that I studied prepared me to be a professional in communication. After graduation, I was an event manager in a publishing and event management company. I cannot only work with counterparts from different countries and industries, but also travel to many places. Thanks to the programme, it provided me with an understanding of why people from different countries expressed themselves in different ways and how I could communicate with them effectively. Without knowing these in the classroom, I might need to spend more time on finishing my tasks and upsetting my boss. As misunderstanding clients could do much harm to their trust on me and could delay the progress of preparing events. I always believe that one needs to have management skills to perform his job, however, he needs to have a good command of communication skills to perform his job well. I am glad that I studied in this programme which laid a strong foundation in me to advance in my career.”
