ENGL is pleased to announce the Department of English Postgraduate Scholarship and Award (EPSA) Scheme, which from the 2008/09 academic year will provide scholarships and awards for self-financing postgraduate programmes. The scheme complements the one already in operation for the department's self-financing undergraduate programme, the BA (Hons) in English for Business and Professional Communication. BAEBPC students have the chance to win performance awards on a semester basis, with four awards per cohort being made in all three semesters of the academic year. Semester 1 and 2 awards are each worth $10,000, while the summer awards are worth $5,000 each. The total value of the BAEBPC awards is HK$200,000 per year.
The EPSA scheme is similar to that for BAEBPC in that two performance awards, each of $10,000, are provided yearly for part-time students from each of ENGL's four MA programmes:
- MA in English Language Studies
- MA in English Language Teaching
- MA in English for the Professions
- MA in Japanese Studies for the Professions.
However, in addition to performance awards, the EPSA scheme also offers entry scholarships. Three entry scholarships, each of $60,000, are provided yearly for each of the four MA programmes to award to their full-time students. The total value of the postgraduate scholarships and awards is HK$800,000 per year.
The Department will review the number, size and distribution of scholarships and awards on a yearly basis.
