Abstract:
Writing research articles in English is a major challenge for postgraduate research students. This workshop provides a general introduction to the purpose, organisation and style of research articles. Articles from a range of disciplines will be analysed and discussed.
This workshop is primarily intended for students who have just embarked on postgraduate courses or who have little experience of writing research articles. It also serves as an introduction to a series of forthcoming EEPRS workshops which will deal with specific sections of a research article in greater detail.

Writing Effective Introductions

Abstract:
Many postgraduate research students find it difficult to write an effective introduction to a research article. In this workshop we will analyse some of the features of effective and ineffective introductory sections and discuss the various strategies that successful writers use to grasp the attention of readers and reviewers. These include organisational, grammatical and vocabulary choices.
