Call for Papers
The symposium is jointly organized by the Faculty of Humanities, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR and the School of Humanities & School of Foreign Languages of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. It will be held on 26 April, 2010 and aims to bring together postgraduate students from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong to contribute to a stimulating and dynamic exchange of ideas of the following academic areas:
- Language Studies, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Chinese, English, or Other Languages
- Cultural Studies
- Humanities-related Studies
All current postgraduate students in any of the Humanities departments of any university in the three places are cordially invited to attend and present papers at this event.

1) Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Professor of Chinese History and Vice President of SYSU, Guangzhou, China
2) Prof. Elizabeth Traugott, Emerita Professor of Linguistics & English, Stanford University, USA

Presentation Arrangement:
Oral presentation: 20 minutes for each oral presentation, plus 10 minutes for discussion
Eligibility:
Postgraduate research students from humanities departments from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong
Registration Fee:
HKD120 / RMB100 which includes lunch and coffee breaks at the symposium. Deadline of registration is 20 April 2010.
Abstract Submission Deadline:
5 March 2010 (Notices of acceptance will be sent out by 1 April 2010. PolyU will provide one-night free lodging for authors of accepted papers from Macau and Guangdong.)
Abstract Requirements:
- Abstracts should be written either in English or in Chinese.
- Each submission should be an abstract of two pages, excluding references. Template of the abstract can be downloaded from here.
- Format: 1 inch margin using 12 font, Times New Roman (English), 新細明體 (traditional Chinese), or SimSun (simplified Chinese).
Submission Requirements:
- Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual or one joint abstract per author.
- Please send two SOFT copies as e-mail attachments to egpgrsym@inet.polyu.edu.hk, one with the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s) as well as affiliation(s), and the other without the author's information. Please name your file the same as the title of your paper.
- Please list the academic area of the paper and the author's name in the "subject" of the email.
- Please list (1) title of the paper, (2) name(s) of the author(s), (3) affiliation(s), (4) mailing address(es) and (5) email address(es) in the e-mail.
